Development of new product lines

The Future Small Aircraft was aimed at the development of a small aircraft that meets the high standards of safety and comfort with greatly reduced operating costs and emissions. Research activities included new production methods, fuel-efficient propulsion units and electronic controls (fly-by-wire) for small aircraft, such as those used by airliners exclusively.

Although not commercialised - due to resource constraints, engine development remained open - the project was groundbreaking for future activities. In 2012, fly-by-wire technology for small aircraft was successfully tested on the twin-engine DA42 for the first time.
