The Austrian aviation sector - a dynamic pole of growth
... or how Austrian competences take off
Since the beginning of the 2000s, the BMK has invested around € 400 million in research, technology and innovation in cooperation with organisations from the national aviation (supplier) industry. The aim of these research, technology and innovation (RTI) subsidies was and still is to place the strategic position of Austria as a supplier country on a broader basis alongside successful sectors such as the automotive and railway industries.
The launch of the funding programme Take Off in 2002 and the subsequent RTI strategy for aviation in 2008 finally led to a common vision of the Austrian aviation sector. A success story that stands as best practice for small aviation nations in Europe.
