Technology transfer supports industrialisation in aviation
The high volumes of composite components expected in aviation can no longer be handled by conventional production technologies such as hand lamination or tape laying. Therefore, the way is headed towards industrialisation via the resin injection process, also called Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM), which is suitable for the production of long and endless fibre reinforced sheet-like components in small and medium series. It is a process from the automotive industry where cycle times, automation and industrialisation are of importance. This cost, time and energy efficient manufacturing allows the aviation industry to remain competitive.
