Update on the ReFuelEU Aviation Initiative

Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on a level playing field for sustainable air transport. Decision in the TRAN Committee is expected.

Since February 11, the committee work of the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation started in the European Parliament. The rapporteur in the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN) recommends a number of amendments to the Commission's proposal, such as a harmonized target for EU-wide fuel supply or additional sub-targets for synthetic fuels from 2025. The draft report also extends the scope of the regulations to most EU airports and lowers the thresholds to include more airports than envisaged in the Commission's proposal.

The ReFuelEU initiative is a proposal of the European Commission's Fit for 55 package to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% from 1990 levels by 2030.
