EASA certification of the world's largest icing wind tunnel for aircraft
For the certification of crucial aircraft components such as engines, rotors, airfoils or the entire aircraft, proof of appropriate safeguard measures against icing must be provided so that icing does not endanger flight safety. The aviation industry therefore needs efficient facilities for the development, testing and approval of their products, in which relevant icing tests can be carried out.
Rail Tec Arsenal has accepted the challenge and developed an icing facility through self-financed and publicly funded projects. With the mobile icing rig, the world's longest climatic wind tunnel can be converted into the world's largest icing wind tunnel for aircrafts. In 2014, the first certification test of an engine was carried out under the supervision of EASA.
