Methods for improving weather forecasts and minimising the impact on the ATM are in demand. With the help of image processing methods, camera images and complementary data are fused in order to get a continuous and meaningful overall picture of airport weather. Here, plausibility is just as important as the automatic image analysis. The trend towards the Remote Tower especially makes automation necessary. The aim is to operationalise the generated knowledge about tailor-made products for an efficient weather management. 

JOANNEUM RESEARCH leads these research activities in the visIvis product, an innovative solution for automatic visibility measurement for standard cameras.
