SESAR Innovation Days 2025

1. - 4. December 2025
Conference Centre in Lake Bled, Slovenia

Inspiring long-term research in the field of air traffic management (ATM)

Organizer

The SESAR Innovation Days (SIDs) 2025 will be hosted by Pipistrel and the University of Ljubljana.

Content Description

Now in its 15th edition, the SIDs have become a landmark event in the European aviation research calendar, bringing together researchers, industry professionals, and academics to showcase cutting-edge ATM innovation.

Why attend?

Unlike other scientific ATM events, the SIDs place a strong emphasis on exploratory research, offering a unique platform for:

  • Sharing the latest SESAR research results, as well as those from other research projects, both in Europe and beyond
  • Fostering collaboration between academia and industry
  • Engaging in open knowledge exchange
  • Exploring exciting demonstrations and technical exhibits
  • Visiting operational SESAR partners, including Pipistrel and Slovenia Control

Networking sessions, poster exhibitions, and interactive demos will offer plenty of opportunities to connect with like-minded experts and discover innovative solutions to real-world ATM challenges.

In addition, this year's edition will once again host the prestigious SESAR Young Scientist Award, recognising outstanding contributions by early-career researchers in ATM and aviation-related fields.

Participant Information

How to submit a paper?

Researchers from universities, research institutions, airlines, air navigation service providers and industry are invited to submit papers (up to 8 pages) presenting their research within the areas of interest listed below.

Papers will be evaluated based on the innovative nature of the ideas, as well as the approach and methods applied.

All papers (including SESAR contributions) will be triple peer-reviewed by a dedicated committee.

Areas of interest include:

  • Advanced air traffic services
  • Airline Operations
  • Airspace Management & Design
  • ATM operations, architecture and performance
  • Automation, autonomy and robotics in air transportation
  • Aviation economics and business models
  • Communications, navigation and surveillance (CNS)
  • Complexity, data science and information management
  • Environment and meteorology
  • High performing airport operations
  • Human factors and decision support tools
  • Legal and regulatory aspects and the ATM innovation process
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Network and Flow Management
  • Safety, security and resilience
  • Uncertainty, applied modelling and optimisation techniques
  • Unmanned aerial systems (UAS), U-space and Urban Air Mobility
  • Submissions shall be uploaded in pdf format via the link provided below. Templates in word and latex format are available for download on the submission page and must be used to create the submission.

All submissions will undergo triple peer review. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and indexed in Elsevier's Scopus database. A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) will be assigned to each article.

Dates

  • Paper submission deadline: 15. September 2025
  • Notification of acceptance: 30. October 2025

How to submit a poster or exhibit

Partners from both academia and industry are invited to submit proposals for posters and technical exhibits or demonstrations (max one poster/exhibit/demonstration per presenter, three per organisation).

As well as showing innovative solutions to traditional problems of air traffic management, posters and exhibits may also address wider air transport and air traffic issues.

Proposals shall be submitted with a detailed description of the subject matter, using the dedicated contribution form via the SESAR 3 JU website.

Do not submit the poster itself; instructions on how to create the poster will be provided with the notification of acceptance.

Exhibitors are encouraged to submit a short (max. 2-minute) teaser video to help promote their research. These will be used in event communications and on-site to attract visitors to your stand.

Guidance on how to create the video will also be shared together with the notification of acceptance. Existing videos can already be submitted with the contribution.
